Allow plenty of time for your pet’s time in the spotlight. The average photo session is 1 to 2 hours, but could be shorter or longer depending on the individual and the location. We won’t leave until we are sure we have lots of really good shots with a lot of variety for you to choose from.
In most cases it is best to let us come to you for your photo session. Dogs and cats may find it scary or uncomfortable to come into a strange studio environment. We prefer to come to your home, your park or field or woods, where the star(s) of the day will be their most relaxed. There are two goals for your photo session. To get great images you can treasure for years to come, and for you and your pet to have a great time.
Every pet and every session is different, so our time together will be an adventure and fun. We come bearing toys and treats and like to get down and dirty on the ground with them, looking for moments that make them who they are. We do what we can to capture their individual personality and spirit.
We will start with a “Getting to Know You” session with your pet. The first portion will be saying hello, getting the wiggles out and building a trust with your pet to get them comfortable. If we are shooting at your house, dogs of course get very excited, and cats may be nervous, when someone new comes over, so we will take some time in the beginning to settle in.
Often it works out well with some pets to split the session between outdoors and indoors. Getting action shots outdoors first sometimes helps get relaxed posed shots second. Of course if it is inclement weather, we will adapt.
We like natural light best, whether outdoors or indoors, but sometimes additional lighting may be used too.
We shoot digital and we take a lot of photos to get the best we can. We also shoot in both color and black & white, so you can choose or have both. We include a close-up macro lens in our sessions so we can get extreme close-up shots as well as full body portraits and those actions shots too. You can join your companion in front of the camera – we welcome it! – or you can remain behind the scenes. We also welcome your participation.
Coming inside your home may be important to make your pet comfortable, but if it makes you uncomfortable, we can shoot elsewhere. There’s no need for your home to be immaculate. An animal home is a comfortable home.
Let's hope it gets good ones soon!
